Moving Out Information

In order to make your move out of a JHM&Co. apartment as smooth and hassle-free as possible, we suggest you take the following steps:

Move Out

1.Contact your building janitor in advance, at the telephone number provided in your Welcome Letter, to reserve elevator time (if applicable), set up an appointment to do a walk-through of your apartment, and turn in your keys.
2.Make a reservation for your movers or your rental truck well in advance, because the closer to your move date you try to make your reservation, the less flexibility you will have in making your move.
3.If you use professional movers, make sure to use a reputable moving company that is both licensed and insured. We suggest that you check with the City to ensure that your mover's license is current, and that you require your mover to provide proof of liability insurance.
4.Contact the appropriate utility companies (link to utilities information) at least a week in advance to inform them the date on which service should be taken out of your name.
5.Clean your apartment. Please use the Cleaning Checklist that accompanies the Move-Out Rules to avoid deductions from your security deposit.
6.Move out of your apartment by the last day of your Lease, no later. Refer to your Lease for clarification of per diem charges, which will be deducted from your security deposit if you fail to move out and return your keys to your janitor by the last day of your Lease.
7.Please make sure that we have your forwarding address for returning your security deposit by completing the forwarding address form on the back of your Move-Out Rules and either sending it to our office, or leaving it in the Service Request Box.
8.If you are moving out, please be sure to enter a forwarding address with the U.S. Postal Service in order that your mail is not lost in your move. Sorry, we cannot be responsible for mail delivered to your apartment after you have moved out.
9.In walk-up and courtyard buildings, all personal property and furniture must be moved through the back entrances. If your building does not have a back entrance, this does not apply to you.
10. All unpaid late charges, delinquent rents or other money defaults will be deducted from the security deposit. All money defaults satisfied by a reduction from the security deposit will still be considered a Lease default and no interest on that portion of the security deposit will be paid.
